Focus on Staff With Kimberly Benna
A born and raised Cincinnatian, Kimberly Benna, senior administrator in the division of general internal medicine, has been employed at a number of Cincinnati staples like the Ohio River Company and City Hall before coming to work at UC in 2001. "When I interviewed for the position, I had such a bad cold and was nervous because after being offered the job, I became ill and had to delay my start date, she says. "I was worried I would lose the job before I began, but here I am 11 years later still going strong!
What are your duties?
"I consider myself the go-to person for general internal medicine and hospitalist faculty, whether its scheduling a meeting or answering calls, not to mention the variety of people that stop by the office looking for directions or help; I am up to the challenge.
What is your favorite part of the job?
"The interaction among my co-workers and faculty. I work with a pretty amazing group of people! One of my favorite projects has been (planning and scheduling for) the live conferences; the planning from start to finish and seeing how many people attend brings about a sense of real fulfillment.
What do you like to do when you arent at work?
"Family time is very important; we celebrate each special occasion by going out and dining. I love spending time with my family, especially my younger great nieces and nephews. Their smiles bring such a joy to my heart. As each day passes and I become older, family time becomes even more precious.
Name one interesting fact about yourself someone might not know.
"During a brief period from 1995 to 1997, I relocated to Mobile, Alabama. I left, family, friendseverything behind to start a new job. I was working as the office manager for a small family company that sold physical therapy equipment. We had an office in Cincinnati, Chicago and opening one in Alabama. I enjoyed going to work every day in shorts and a T-shirt and having a view of the ocean. The move was a great growth experience for me.
