Monica Mitchell, PhD, to Lead Community Relations Efforts at Cincinnati Children's
CINCINNATICincinnati Childrens Hospital Medical Center has appointed Monica Mitchell, PhD, as senior director of community relations, effective Nov. 5. In addition to this new role, she will remain a faculty member at Cincinnati Childrens and the University of Cincinnati (UC) Department of Pediatrics in Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology, and associate professor of psychology at UC.
"I am very excited about this added responsibility and the opportunity it gives me to get even more involved in our communities, Mitchell says.
Mitchell is nationally known for the INNOVATIONS program she founded with Lori Crosby, PsyD. INNOVATIONS provides and promotes research expertise that allows community agencies to quantify the positive impact they bring to the populations they serve.
She also served as co-director of the Community Engagement Core of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science Training beginning in 2008. In this role, she developed academic-community programs and models, including the Community Leaders Institute and Community Health Grants programs.
Since 2010, Mitchell has also led efforts to reverse pediatric obesity trends in our local communities.
Mitchell has been recognized nationally and locally for advancing community engagement, culturally sensitive research and academic-community partnerships.
She received her PhD from Vanderbilt University and joined the Cincinnati Childrens faculty in Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology in 2000, following completion of both her residency and postdoctoral training at Cincinnati Childrens.
