Medical Student Physician Meet & Greet Jan. 17

UC’s American Medical Association student chapter will hold their annual "Physician Meet & Greet” from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the CARE/Crawley Atrium.

The chapter will hold two sessions this year for students and doctors to talk about medical specialties in an informal setting. The next event will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21.

"Because we had to turn students away last year, we plan to hold two Meet & Greet events this year with even more specialties represented,” says chapter co-president Konstantin Grigoryan. "We’re also making sure that primary care holds a notable place in these sessions.”

During the Meet & Greet, participants gather in a roundtable format to discuss aspects of a particular specialty. After 20 minutes, they rotate to their next table, and so on for two hours.

"We’ve found that the Meet & Greets most benefit students M1 through M3 by helping them discover shadowing opportunities and helping them pick rotations for the following year,” says chapter co-president Junzi Shi. "The faculty and doctors who participate have also given very positive feedback about the event and are happy that students are exposed to specialties at an earlier stage so that they are made aware of the unique differences.”
