MPH Program Starts Chapter of Delta Omega Honorary Society
The Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health has recently accepted the University of Cincinnati Department of Environmental Healths Gamma Rho as its newest chapter.
The Delta Omega Honorary Society in Public Health was founded in 1924 at Johns Hopkins University within the School of Hygiene and Public Health and has since expanded to more than 70 chapters throughout the world with more than 14,000 members from accredited graduate schools and programs of public health, as well as the public health community.
"This is a nationally recognized organization and will help students in the program network with others in the same line of study, encouraging collaboration and excellence within the program, says Valerie Lasko, a recent graduate of the environmental health departments Masters of Public Health program and the student who initiated the application for the UC chapter.
Lasko says the Student Advisory Committee, which already exists within the program and is made up of about 10 to 12 students, will begin as Gamma Rho this fall, meeting monthly and planning student activities and awards to highlight successes and strengths of the MPH program.
Bill Mase, DrPH, director of the UC MPH program and a Delta Omega member, says this type of support and networking is invaluable for students.
"Delta Omega will serve as a catalyst for transformational public health improvement by connecting our students, graduates, community partners and faculty to members of the society throughout the world, he says.
