Sen. Portman Tours C-STARS

UC Medical Center hosted U.S. Sen. Rob Portman Thursday, Aug. 15, for a tour and overview of the Center for the Sustainment of Trauma & Readiness Skills (C-STARS) program.

He was accompanied by chief of the division of trauma and critical care Jay Johannigman, MD, associate professor of surgery Warren Dorlac, MD, associate professor of surgery Timothy Pritts, MD, PhD, associate professor Rich Branson, MsC, and other C-STARS instructors. After touring UCMC, Portman traveled with faculty to Lunken Airport for a firsthand look at the simulated flight training course there. 

UC's C-STARS program, a partnership with the United States Air Force, is one of five national military/civilian collaborative training centers across the country. The program has trained more than 700 military medics since its first class in 2002.
