Teresa Cavanaugh, PharmD, to Lead State Pharmacy Organization
Teresa Cavanaugh, PharmD, assistant professor in pharmacy practice at the James L. Winkle College of Pharmacy, has been voted 2014 president of the Ohio Society of Health-System Pharmacists (OSHP).
OSHP represents Ohio pharmacists, students, technicians and associates with an interest in health-system pharmacy practice. Its goals are to enhance education, advocacy, professional guidance, recognition and communications within the membership and to the public.
Cavanaugh served as president elect for one year before transitioning into the OSHP presidents position.
"It is a privilege to work with such incredibly smart and talented individuals who have a passion for advancing pharmacy practice in the state of Ohio, Cavanaugh responds to the announcement made at OSHPs annual meeting in Columbus April 10-11, 2014.
Cavanaugh has held numerous offices in professional organizations including chair of the commission for affiliate relations for the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) and division director of organizational affairs for OSHP.
In addition to teaching clinical pharmacy, Cavanaugh is a member of the University of Cincinnati Medical Centers (UCMC) interdisciplinary health care team taking care of liver transplant recipients in an ambulatory clinic. She has presented at multiple national meetings and has published in the areas of transplantation, pharmacoeconomics and quality of life.
Cavanaugh earned her PharmD from Winkle in 2006 and upon graduation undertook a postgraduate residency at University of Cincinnati Medical Center. This residency, she says, solidified her interest in practice-based research with transplant patients.
Subsequently, she completed a two-year fellowship in health outcomes research at Winkle and UCMC with a focus on liver transplantation. During her fellowship, Cavanaugh received board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist, and also earned a masters in pharmacy administration from the Winkle College of Pharmacy (09) with an emphasis on health outcomes research.
Teresa Cavanaugh was selected from a competitive pool of young pharmacists to present at the International Pharmaceutical Federation.
