2014 University of Cincinnati Inventors Honored
The University of Cincinnatis Office of Research and the Office of Entrepreneurial Affairs and Technology Commercialization recognized 2014 patent recipients during the Jan. 21 mens basketball game at Fifth Third Arena.
Honorees from the College of Medicine included:
Ambikaipakan Balasubramaniam, PhD, professor in the Department of Surgery and Interdisciplinary Neuroscience program, for "Compounds for control of appetite.
Amit Bhattacharya, PhD, professor in the Department of Environmental Health, for "Computer System and Method for Assessing Dynamic Bone Quality.
Steven Boyce, PhD, professor in the Department of Surgery, for "Surgical device for skin therapy or testing.
Melanie Cushion, PhD, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and senior associate dean for research, College of Medicine, for "Bisbenzamidines for the Treatment of Pneumonia.
William Ridgway, MD, Alice W. and Mark A. Brown Professor and director of the Division of Immunology, Allergy and Rheumatology, for "Method of inhibiting progression of type 1 diabetes by administering soluble CD137.
Peter Walzer, MD, professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases, for "Bisbenzamidines for the Treatment of Pneumonia.

Anastasios Angelopoulous, PhD, associate professor in Department of Biomedical, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, for "Multifunctional nanocoatings with mixed nanoparticles and process for fabricating same.
Jason Heikenfeld, PhD, professor of engineering, for "Electrofluidic imaging film, devices and displays, and methods of making and using the same.
Vesselin Shanov,, PhD, professor of chemical and materials engineering, and Mark Schultz, professor of mechanical engineering, for "Composite catalysts and method for manufacturing carbon nanostructured materials.
David Wendell, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical, Chemical and Environmental Engineering, for "Foam microreactor for multi-phase shear-sensitive reactions.
Raphael Zammit, associate professor in the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning, for "Airport Transportation System.
Jay Lee, C.W. Scott Alter Chair Professor and Distinguished University Professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and Edzel Lapira, PhD, research associate in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computing, for "Turbine-to-Turbine Prognostics Technique for Wind Farms.
