Exercise classes for people with Parkinsons disease begin in May at the Daniel Drake Center for Post-Acute Care. The eight-week sessions will be held on Mondays at 1 p.m., beginning May 4, and on Wednesdays at 11 a.m., beginning May 6. The classes will take place at the Wellness Center, located on the A level.
The cost is $50 for the Monday or Wednesday series of classes during the eight-week session, or $78 for both the Monday and Wednesday series of classes.
Staying active and maintaining a regular exercise program throughout the disease process has been shown to be extremely beneficial for people with Parkinsons disease. This exercise class is specifically designed for people with Parkinsons disease and is based on the most current research and established exercise guidelines.
It includes stretching, strengthening and coordination exercises and is appropriate for people at various stages of Parkinsons disease. If you have balance issues and regularly use an assistive device, please bring it with you to class. You may also bring a caregiver to assist you further if needed.
