UC, Maple Knoll Partnership Made Official

Leaders from the University of Cincinnati and Maple Knoll Village, a continuing care retirement community in Springdale, came together Monday to make official a decades-long partnership.

Maple Knoll president and CEO Jim Formal and UC College of Nursing Dean Greer Glazer, PhD, signed an affiliation agreement, which signifies a continued commitment to partnering.

They were joined by Teik Lim, PhD, dean, UC College of Engineering and Applied Science, and William Ball, MD, Christian R. Holmes Professor and Dean, College of Medicine, and Senior Vice President for Health Affairs.

UC and Maple Knoll have a 30-year history of working together in nursing, medicine, pharmacy, education and practice. In 2012, through a partnership with the UC College of Nursing, a villa on the campus of Maple Knoll was transformed into a learning and test environment for the development of technologies aimed at keeping seniors in their own homes or communities longer.

Debi Sampsel, DNP, chief officer of innovation and entrepreneurship at the UC College of Nursing, spearheaded the creation of the "smart home," known as the Innovation Collaboratory House.

The Innovation Collaboratory is home to telehealth robots and patient simulators, and is now the testing ground for innovative student projects aimed at detecting falls, preventing medication errors and making life easier for an aging population.
