Awards Bestowed on School of Social Work Faculty and Student

The School of Social Work in the College of Allied Health Sciences started off 2015 with three faculty and student distinguished awards.
 
In April, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Ohio chapter honored a University of Cincinnati (UC) social work faculty member and student at their 2015 regional awards reception at the Cincinnati Museum Center.
 
The Ohio chapter honored Jeannette Taylor, PhD, professor emerita in the School of Social Work, as the "2015 Social Worker of the Year.” Taylor is a mentor to students, faculty, and staff across UC’s campus and has spent her entire life working towards social justice issues. Her impact on the African American community has been honored by numerous community organizations, the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, YWCA, Cincinnati Baptist Ministers’ Conference, Cincinnati Health Alliance/Black Client Workshop, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. "Keep the Dream Alive” Committee/ Church of the Resurrection.

Says Taylor: "I am a lifelong learner who is always in search of best practice models for delivering social work services, as importantly,  I really love the profession of social work, so I felt rather obligated to give the best I had to offer.  I believe we all have the responsibility of making this world a better place, so I strive for excellence in all that I do.”
 
Social work masters student, Sarah Madrigal, was named the association’s "2015 Master’s Social Work (MSW) Student of the Year.” Madrigal says she has "recognized the need for more outreach/education into the undocumented, monolingual Spanish-speaking population in our area.” She is now working with the Intercommunity Justice and Peace Center to "help bring a voice to the plight of our undocumented population and push for humane immigration reform.”
 
Xan Boone, professor of social work, received the coveted Linda Pope Award from the Ohio Child Welfare Training Program (OCWTP). This award, in honor of Linda Pope, recognizes Boone for her dedication to and her impact on child welfare professionals throughout the state of Ohio. According to the OCWTP, award winners show courage to incorporate new theoretically sound concepts and best practice into training and the award is a reflection on Linda's dedication to providing high quality, ethical, family-centered training to child welfare professionals.
