Three Academic Health Center Faculty Members Named Outstanding Educators
Three faculty members from the University of Cincinnati (UC) Academic Health Center were recently recognized by Cincy Magazine as Outstanding Educators 2016. Valorie Grant, RN, MEd and Yvette Pryse, PhD, are faculty in the College of Nursing, and Rebecca Leugers, MS, is an assistant professor in the College of Allied Health Sciences (CAHS).
The Cincy Magazine Outstanding Educators 2016 award winners were singled out for a variety of traits ranging from scholarship and spending time with students to innovation in the classroom and research. The three honorees from the Academic Health Center were among nine educators recognized by the magazine.
Grant was cited for her efforts with students and clients at the Food for the Soul soup kitchen in Avondale. As part of their community clinical rotation, College of Nursing students meet with clients and provide them with free health screenings and educational materials.
Leugers was recognized for her commitment to incorporate real life learning situations into all of her lab-based courses and her key role in the development and delivery of the neurological and integumentary portions of the CAHS Doctor of Physical Therapy curriculum.
Pryse was honored for leading a technology-driven initiative at the UC College of Nursing launched in 2011. She has been instrumental in implementing a strategy of flipping the classroom to get her students more engaged, and away from just rote memorization.
The awards are featured in the April/May 2016 issue of Cincy Magazine.
