Volunteers Needed for HopeFest Health and Education Festival July 9
Volunteers are needed for the HopeFest Health and Education Festival on July 9 at Washington Park in Cincinnati. The event increases the awareness of health disparities in Cincinnati while offering free health screenings and educational opportunities to at-risk children.
According to data from the U.S. Census Bureau, Cincinnati ranks No. 2 among major U.S. cities in child poverty rates, and there are large health disparities among children living in poverty. Since 2012, Melinda Butsch Kovacic, PhD, associate dean of research in the University of Cincinnati College of Allied Health Sciences, has partnered with Sherman Bradleys Consider the Poor to bring HopeFest to Cincinnati.
HopeFest attendees complete a Health Passport survey as they visit screening and education booths. The resulting data can help screeners increase follow up care and target community screenings. Community stakeholders can use the data to identify and prioritize community health needs.
The HopeFest event on July 9 will be held from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Washington Park. For more information or to volunteer, go to http://www.cahs.uc.edu/research/hopefest.
