Gold Humanism Society Inducts Class of 2018
The College of Medicines Gold Humanism Honor Society Chapter, sponsored by the Arnold P. Gold Foundation, inducted the GHHS class of 2018 and presented several humanism awards to residents and faculty at its annual dinner, Wednesday, May 3, at the Cincinnati Faculty Club in the Richard E. Lindner Center.
Robert Neel IV, MD, associate professor, vice chair of education, and director of the residency program in the UC Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine, was recognized as the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Faculty honoree. Neel will officially be presented the award, which recognizes a College of Medicine faculty member who best demonstrates outstanding compassion in the delivery of care, as well as clinical excellence, during Honors Day on May 20.
John Quinlan, MD, professor and division director, Department of Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine, introduced Neel during the ceremony.
Fourth-year medical student, Christian Gausvik, Jr., is the recipient of the Leonard Tow student award this year.
Twenty-six students were inducted into GHHS: Nabeeha Ahmad, Meera Basu, Lisa Chiu, Nisha Giridharan, Theresia Gordnier, Jessica Hwang, Cameron Ingram, Mary Kunesh, Marcia Mauger, Malynda Messer, Anas Minkara, Thara Nagarajan Lindsay Parrish, Sunny Patel, Nithin Peddireddy, Elizabeth Peters, Ellen Pittman, Swathi Prasad, Matthew Schirtzinger, Daniel Schneider, Sara Stigler, Joseph Tadros, Janathan Vijanderan, Christian Williams, Hayden Wong and Yu Zhou.
All students were nominated by their peers and faculty as students who best exemplify integrity, compassion, altruism, respect, empathy and a dedication to service. Their awards were presented by Laura Malosh, PhD, assistant dean, academic support.
Finally, the society recognized five residents with the Arnold P. Gold Humanism Teaching Awards this year. The awards were presented by Andrew Filak, Jr., MD, senior associate dean for academic affairs. They winners are:

- Daniel Box, MD, Urology
- Alexander Cortez, MD, General Surgery
- Emily Hurley, MD, Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Joshua Kuethe, MD, General Surgery
- Ashby Clay Turner, MD, Neurology and Rehabilitation Medicine
