UC Professors Take a Pie in the Face to Raise Funds for AMA

Each year, the UC College of Medicine student chapter of the American Medical Association hosts a "Pie-A-Prof" fundraising event to support its educational and charitable activities through the year. This year’s event was held Wednesday, May 10, in the atrium of CARE Crawley Building. The chapter raffled off chances for students and staff to "pie” some beloved UC College of Medicine Professors and others participating. It raised around $210 to be used to promote student resolutions aimed at improving healthcare. The top fundraisers: Bruce Giffin, PhD, professor and associate dean for medical education; DJ Lowrie, PhD, assistant professor of medical education; and student participant, Thomas Chavez, were the lucky ones to receive pies in the face.

DJ Lowrie, PhD, is a pretty good sport. Student organizers of the Pie-A-Prof contest in Care Crawley Building were pleased with turnout for the event.

Not too many professors are excited about a pie in the face, but Bruce Giffin, PhD, didn't seem to mind a bit.
