College of Nursing Faculty Wins AANA 2017 Researcher of the Year Award
Beth Ann Clayton, assistant professor of clinical nursing at the University of Cincinnati (UC) College of Nursing, and director of the Nurse Anesthesia program, has been awarded the 2017 Researcher of the Year by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA).
The award was given to the AANA Foundation Closed Claims Research Team, of which Clayton is a part, for making a significant contribution to the practice of anesthesia through clinical research and for incorporating research into her professional career. In comments about the award, the AANA Foundation wrote, "The Closed Claims Research Team has enhanced the closed claims research by conducting rigorous qualitative analysis to enrich the research findings. Since its inception in 1995, the team has produced over 100 presentations, 25 posters and 10 published articles addressing anesthesia adverse outcomes.
Based on this work, Clayton was selected to review the draft document Analgesic and Anesthesia Care for the Obstetric Patient, Practice Guidelines, which is up for comments and should be implemented in late October. This document will guide anesthesia professionals who provide obstetric analgesic and anesthesia care.
