Michael Whiteman joins UC Law as director of Marx Law Library

Michael Whiteman has been named associate dean of Library Services and director of the Robert S. Marx Law Library at the University of Cincinnati College of Law, effective August 5, subject to the approval of the University of Cincinnati Board of Trustees.

Currently interim dean at Northern Kentucky University’s Chase College of Law, Dean Whiteman previously served for 15 years as the associate dean for Law Library Services at Chase. He will replace Kenneth J. Hirsh, who is retiring after more than 10 years as director.

In addition to leading library services, Whiteman brings experience teaching courses in criminal law and legal research. Whiteman has spoken at national and regional conferences on topics involving law libraries and legal research, and has published law review articles in Northwestern Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property and the UCLA Law Review Discourse. Additionally, his recent publications include Appellate Jurisprudence in the Internet Age in the Northwestern Journal of Technology and Intellectual Property.

Whiteman received his BA from Concordia University, his JD from the University of Louisville’s Brandeis School of Law, and his MS (LIS) from Simmons College. Before joining Chase, he was associate director at the Brandeis School of Law’s Library. He began his career at the Boston College Law School Library.

Local couple uses royalties from children's books to give gifts to kids in need
