Hoxworth Blood Center calling on UC Bearcats to save lives
The all-campus blood drive runs from Jan. 27 to 31
Hoxworth Blood Center is making its way back to the University of Cincinnati during the UC all campus blood drive to help boost supplies after a busy holiday season.
Students, faculty, staff and fans of UC are encouraged to donate blood, platelets or plasma during the UC all campus blood drive in exchange for an exclusive Hoxworth donor scarf. All UC donors also will be entered into a raffle to win one of three drones.
The blood drive will take place at Tangeman University Center’s Great Hall from Monday, Jan. 27, through Thursday, Jan. 30. A donor bus will be parked on McMicken Commons on Friday, Jan. 31.
“The UC blood drives have become one of our most successful blood drives that we hold,” said Jackie Marschall, spokesperson for Hoxworth. “It’s so exciting to see such a diverse group of students, faculty, staff and others come together for a cause that affects individuals right here in our Cincinnati community. We are very grateful for the dedication of our UC family and we hope to see an even bigger turnout as we begin the new year.”
Hoxworth will host additional blood drives throughout the week with UC's College of Law, the UC Medical Campus and UC Blue Ash.
Hoxworth needs to collect 400 units of blood and 50 units of platelets a day to fulfill the needs of local hospitals.
Appointments are highly encouraged due to the popularity of this event, but walk-ins are welcome. To schedule an appointment at any of the University of Cincinnati drives, visit www.hoxworth.org/uc or call 513-451-0910.

How are tariffs impacting your retirement plans?
May 15, 2025
WVXU sat down with University of Cincinnati’s Michael Neugent for a look into how tariffs impact the markets, retirement funds and inflation. Neugent, associate professor-educator at Lindner College of Business and Director of the MS Finance Program, said that investors in the stock market prefer certainty in fiscal policy to help them map out investment decisions. “Right now, that lack of certainty is providing some angst within the market and investors,” he told WVXU. Many U.S. companies will face challenges from tariffs, but pauses on tariff plans can sometimes lead to more questions than answers.
