HuffPost: Liberty Counsel urges churches to reopen
UC Scholar Andrew Lewis weighs in on conservative legal activism
HuffPost consulted a University of Cincinnati expert in an article about Liberty Counsel, a conservative Christian law firm calling on churches across the country to reopen in May. Andrew Lewis, an associate professor of political science in UC's College of Arts and Sciences, describes Liberty Counsel as one of the more aggressive Christian legal defense groups championing religious freedom in cases where similar groups have been more cautious.
"Churches have been quite compliant in the first weeks of the COVID pandemic, but as life opens up in states, there will be an increasing push for churches to reopen, especially in conservative circles,” Lewis says.
