UC collaborates Siemens PLM Software for new center

University of Cincinnati and Siemens PLM software joined hands to open a simulation and modeling center at the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

The Simulation Technology Center will establish a connection between academia and industry by educating and training students in CAD, CAE, digital design and manufacturing to make them industry ready.

UC Siemens simulation technology center will be a hub for development and application of new methodologies and technologies in engineering education and research in all aspects of product life-cycle management.

Siemens PLM software has pledged a support of $1 million dollars to establish the Simulation Technology Center along with the support of its staff and providing UC with all Siemens PLM software. Using the software, students will have the opportunity to perform state-of-the-art design, engineering analysis, product development and manufacturing simulations, and learn from industry experts.

Professor Jay Kim, department head of UC's Mechanical and Materials Engineering, and Sam Anand, a professor of mechanical engineering, also will serve as the operational director of the center and lead CEAS faculty.

Supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), researchers led by the University of Cincinnati's John Winhusen published clinical trial results in JAMA Internal Medicine that found administering weekly injectable extended-release buprenorphine for treatment of opioid use disorder during pregnancy led to higher rates of abstinence from illicit opioids than buprenorphine given daily under the tongue, one of the standard methods of treatment.
