Elect to take care of yourself with Well-being Wednesdays

Engage with Healthy UC with events to stay connected via supportive resources and opportunities.

What are Healthy UC and Well-Being Wednesdays?

Healthy UC is supported by a collaborative of members who represent campus departments and units that support faculty, staff and student well-being. Healthy UC strives to continue to help each Bearcat thrive in a variety of ways. Every Wednesday will offer various highlights of programming and resources for students, faculty and staff to engage in their well-being. All UC bearcats are welcome to participate and engage when it works best for them.

  • Election season is here. This can cause a variety of stressors for each of us. More than two-thirds of American adults reported that the 2020 election is a significant stress for them, according to the American Psychological Association (APA)Healthy UC, UC’s well-being collaborative, wants to help you be prepared to focus on your well-being as we progress into another presidential election period. Explore the Elect to Take Care of Yourself handout and/or article on Bearcats Landing for simple strategies to consider and use throughout your day-to-day to manage stress paired with support resources at UC for all students, faculty and staff.
  • Tune into How to Be Well in a Pandemic Era on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 from 12-1 p.m. online via Webex!  Pre-registration is encouraged on CampusLink and drop ins are welcomed. Most over-the-counter medications only treat the symptoms of infections like fever, muscle aches, or congestion: few if any pharmaceutical band aids actually improve our immune system. Although there is little research as yet to determine what is effective specifically against coronavirus, we'll be discussing the many ways we can help our own defense systems face and fend off COVID19, as well as other infections, all tools in the tool box of Wellness. Your host will be Lauri Nandyal, MD, adjunct associate clinical professor in the College of Medicine.
  • Explore the 7 Day Pre-Election Resilience Challenge created by the Heart Mind Institute. Each day will feature knowledge, skills and practices to build resilience in the midst of these turbulent landscapes.
  •  Join Supporting Bearcats in Distress. This event will be hosted on Thursday, Nov. 5 from 3 - 4:30 p.m. online via WebEx hosted by CAPS or Counseling and Psychological Services. Please pre-register online in the Faculty OneStop. This is a time of challenges to our mental and emotional well-being. Faculty and staff are often the first people who students come to when feeling distressed, especially when their distress impacts their academics and relationships. There are also times when a faculty or staff member may need to reach out to students of concern. Understanding some key element of distress, how to have a supportive conversation, and refer to appropriate resources, can help faculty and staff to feel more comfortable providing for students in their time of need. This workshop will enhance learning with discussions and role-plays.
  • View Flipping the Switch De-Escalation Strategies for Difficult Encounters video when it works best for you. • The Office of Veterans Programs and Services was founded to ensure that all individuals associated with the military who chose the University of Cincinnati would have a seamless transition from the armed forces to college. • The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) at the University of Cincinnati is an educational program designed to give you an opportunity to become an Air Force or Space Force officer while you complete your degree.

  • Tune into Stress Reduction Amidst Holiday Challenges presented by Impact Solutions. There is much research about stress and what causes it. We also have volumes of information on how to manage or reduce it. So then why do we repeatedly experience such an increase in stress around the Holidays in November and December? It's probably true that each of us who have "Holiday stress" could give a unique answer as to stressors during this time. This seminar is specifically targeted to address holiday stressors and how to more effectively manage those stressors. Lastly, participants will engage in group discussion about how to manage specific stressors, like expectations, family members and traditions.
  • Join the Connect & Reflect: Glass Half Full: Why Being Grateful Can Make You Happier session on November 19 from 12-1 p.m. for an opportunity to share and connect with others over relevant and through provoking content.
  • Join the 2020 Recreation Movement Challenge, organized by NIRSA, the governing body for the UC Campus Recreation.  The program encourages participants to exercise and compete against universities across the country to see who is the most active. Participants can take advantage of virtual workouts from more than 100 colleges and universities.
