Cincinnati.com: UC program helps high schools attract much-needed athletic funding

UC students in David Kelley’s class earn their grades by learning how to apply for grants

With budget cuts a byproduct of the coronavirus pandemic, a Cincinnati.com article highlights how high schools are looking for ways to replace lost revenue; especially sports revenue lost due to the cancellation of spring athletics and the social distancing required  with limited spectators.

That’s where UC graduate students in David Kelley’s “Applied Financial Management Strategies in Athletics" class step up to the plate, by helping local schools to find athletic dollars that might not be available to all schools.

"I have them (students) go through the grant-writing process from cradle to grave to where they can hand it off to the athletic director of that school," Kelley explains in a Cincinnati Enquirer feature now available on Cincinnati.com.   

The students not only  “score” class credit, but much needed items from basketballs to Astroturf for greater Cincinnati high school athletic departments.
