UC real estate students compete in development case competition
Event co-sponsored by UC Real Estate Center and local NAIOP organization
Fourteen teams of University of Cincinnati real estate students recently competed to create redevelopment plans for the commercial area surrounding the downtown Cincinnati Convention Center.
The goal of the competition was to create strategic redevelopment plans for The Port of Greater Cincinnnati Development Authority to attract future convention center business while creating affordable rental housing. This is the second year the UC Real Estate Center and Program partnered with the local Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky chapter of NAIOP Commercial Real Estate Development Association in the competition.
Michael Eriksen, the West Shell Associate Professor of Real Estate at UC,, organized the UC-NAIOP competition, and local NAIOP members voted among a pool of finalists for the presentation they thought was both feasible and best served the interests of the city and community.
Students on the winning team were awarded $625. The first-place team was comprised of the following students:
Brent Ludy: BBA Marketing and Entrepreneurship (Senior)
Duncan Setchell: Real Estate Graduate Certificate Program
Lindsay Sumner: MBA Program
Alex Wehmeyer: BBA Marketing (Senior)
"We were inspired by the other downtown districts of Cincinnati that have seen revitalization over the years," Setchell said. "We wanted to create a lasting catalyst for redevelopment for the west end of the Cincinnati business district."
Below is the winning student proposal:
