Musical America: CCM faculty artist featured in upcoming virtual concert

CCM Flutist Demarre McGill performs with the McGill/McHale Trio on Dec. 6

UC College-Conservatory of Music Professor of Flute Demarre McGill joins his brother, clarinetist Anthony McGill, and pianist Michael McHale for a performance featuring works for duos and trios at 5:30 p.m. on December 6. The concert is hosted by the Shriver Hall Concert Series in Baltimore and will be broadcast on the venue’s website from December 6 through December 9.

The McGill/McHale Trio describes the concert as an exploration of dance, from the Hungarian Furiant and the American Charleston to today's pulsating techno. Works on the program include those by familiar favorites Poulenc, Dvorák and Debussy, as well as newer pieces by Chris Rogerson, Guillaume Connesson and Paul Schoenfeld.

While Cincinnati audiences know Demarre McGill from his recent appointment to the CCM faculty and subsequent concert appearances at the conservatory, they might also remember his brother, Anthony McGill, for his four-year term as Associate Principal Clarinet in the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Anthony McGill and the CSO recently made national headlines with their virtual performance of Anthony Davis' You Have the Right to Remain Silent. The brothers are celebrities in the classical music world, both for their incredible musical abilities, advocacy and for their upbeat, friendly demeanors.

To view the McGill/McHale Trio concert, purchase a ticket for $15 through the Shriver website. Although the concert premieres on December 6, ticket holders will have access to the concert stream through midnight on December 9. The concert will be followed by a question-and-answer session hosted by Catherine Cochran, executive director of the Shriver Hall Concert Series.
