CCM Undergraduate Opera D'Arte presents Offenbach's comical 'Orpheus in the Underworld'
The humorous operetta runs Feb. 4-6, 2022 in CCM's Cohen Family Studio Theater
UC’s College-Conservatory of Music's Undergraduate Opera d’arte presents Orpheus in the Underworld on Feb. 4-6, 2022 in Cohen Family Studio Theater. The production of Jacques Offenbach’s operetta is a satirical retelling of the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and his journey to the underworld to save his beloved, Eurydice.
In this version, Orpheus and Eurydice are unhappily married, and he reluctantly travels to the underworld in an attempt to retrieve his estranged wife from her new lover, Pluto. The comical opera features beloved music, including a popular can-can.
“Be prepared to take the evening off from all things serious,” says Amy Johnson, CCM Voice Professor and director of the production. "Because this work is extremely flexible, the artistic and production team encouraged the cast to participate in the entire creative process. Everyone on or behind the stage helped with costume ideas, settings, character choices and dialogue variations."
The CCM Undergraduate Opera d'Arte presents Oprheus in the Underworld Feb. 4-6, 2022, at CCM's Cohen Family Studio Theater. Tickets are available through the CCM Box Office (seating is limited).
