New summer program at CCM trains the voice, body and mind
The Stilson Institute blends health and wellness initiatives with performance technique
Innovative voice instructor Taylor Stilson, LMT, CPT, MM is bringing a new summer program to UC's College-Conservatory of Music in July 2022. The Stilson Institute at CCM trailblazes a new connection between historic voice pedagogy, modern sound-inspired modalities, science-based biomechanics and world-class faculty.
Stilson has crafted a unique career as a voice instructor and is trailblazing a new paradigm of mind-body voice pedagogy. He holds certifications in massage therapy (LMT-MA), personal training (CPT-NASM), craniosacral therapy, laryngeal massage and swallowing disorders, as well as Ericksonian hypnosis and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) life coaching.
"I think the pandemic has encouraged artists to have a glimpse into what it means to be profoundly self-resilient and self-caring," says Stilson, Assistant Professor-Educator of Musical Theatre Voice at CCM. "I hope the institute, through the phenomenally diverse and world-class faculty, encourages a more rich understanding of what artistry means."
The Stilson Institute runs July 21-24, 2022, as an affiliate offering of CCM's Summer Programs. Instructors include musicians and performing arts educators, health coaches, movement specialists and physicians from UC Health. Learn more.
"There is a growing body of research to support the older ideas of singing and speaking voice pedagogy, and I'm looking forward to marrying the old and the new with this institute," Stilson says. "I am excited to have the fabulous team at UC Department of Otolaryngology lecture on the laryngological, vocal hygiene, and therapeutic qualities of the speaking and singing voice, as well as a broader faculty from UC and beyond presenting on a diverse range of topics that encompass the voice/body/mind connection."
The Stilson Institute's workshops include training in:
- Acoustic Strategies and Resonance Flexibility
- Alexander Technique
- CBT Strategies for Singing
- Emotional Streaming Through Breath
