WATCH: CCM presents 'A Voice Like Mine' mini documentary

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at CCM's acclaimed Voice and Opera programs

Enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the CCM student experience courtesy of the new Backstage at CCM documentary series.

Titled A Voice Like Mine, this mini documentary spotlights bass-baritone John Mburu, who is pursuing his Master of Music degree in Voice Performance at CCM. Declared a "top college vocal program" by Backstage Magazine and described as “one of the continent’s major music schools” by the Toronto Star, CCM's Departments of Opera and Voice provide one of the most comprehensive training programs for opera singers, coaches and directors in the United States.

CCM offers an international faculty of dedicated educators who are also celebrated professionals in their own right, widely and currently active in their respective fields. Mburu studies with CCM Professor of Voice Kenneth Shaw, and CCM's low student-to-teacher ratio allows teachers like Professor Shaw to serve as advisors and mentors.

Performance opportunities abound at CCM in solo, ensemble and dramatic settings. In addition to his roles in operas like The Marriage of Figaro and Galileo Galilei at CCM, Mburu has also participated in CCM's Opera Fusion: New Works initiative with Cincinnati Opera, which offers composers or composer/librettist teams the opportunity to workshop an opera during a 10-day residency in Cincinnati. Reflecting on the experience of working with living composers during previous Opera Fusion: New Works residencies, Mburu commented, "The excitement of knowing that the decisions that you're making with the characters that they've given you are informing what that role is going to turn into was something that I thought was exciting and interesting."
