Critical needfor blood donors during the holiday season

Hoxworth gifting free shirts and gift cards for donating blood or platelets Dec. 5-15

Deck the shelves with pints of hope!

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is in critical need of blood donors this holiday season, so they’ve recruited help from the North Pole crew to provide special gifts to those individuals on the nice list who make the time to save a life.

Hoxworth currently has a critical need for blood types O and A, as well as platelets and asks that all eligible individuals immediately schedule a lifesaving blood donation.

All blood and platelet donors who roll up a sleeve through Dec. 18 will receive a "Home Alone" classic, “Filthy Animal” long-sleeve shirt.

Additionally, whole blood, red cell, and platelet donors will earn an additional e-gift card Dec. 5-15: Whole Blood = $10, Red Cell = $15, Platelets = $20.

“The holidays tend to be a difficult time for blood banks across the country, and Hoxworth is not immune to that struggle,” said Jackie Marschall, Hoxworth spokesperson. “Flu season, holiday parties, and winter vacations all impact our donor turnout, and unfortunately the need for blood doesn’t take a break, and patients in local hospitals will still need transfusions.”

Hoxworth operates seven Neighborhood Donor Centers across the Tri-State. Appointments are highly encouraged at this time. To schedule a donation, call (513) 451-0910 or visit www.hoxworth.org
