Rewarding blood & platelet donors this October at Hoxworth

As the need for lifesaving blood and platelets continues, Hoxworth Blood Center at the University of Cincinnati is giving donors extra reasons to give this October with an exclusive Buddy-themed wearable blanket and the launch of its new Platelet Power Points rewards program.

Cozy up and give back this October

Buddy wearable blanket

Donors can make a lifesaving difference this October and take home a special thank-you gift from Hoxworth. Those who donate blood at any neighborhood donor center or at select mobile drives during the month will receive an exclusive wearable blanket featuring Hoxworth’s mascot, Buddy the Blood Drop, while supplies last. The cozy blanket is a fun way to show your support for Hoxworth and a reminder that every donation can help provide lifesaving blood to patients in local hospitals. Donors are encouraged to make an appointment to give blood this October to help ensure hospitals have the blood they need when patients need it most.

“Every time someone gives blood, they are giving a patient and their family something far more valuable than any thank-you gift — donors are giving them hope,” said David Oh, MD, director of Hoxworth Blood Center. “We hope this wearable blanket is a fun reminder of the lifesaving impact our donors have in our community.”

Introducing Platelet Power Points

Hoxworth Blood Center is launching a new rewards program for platelet donors on Oct. 1. Through Platelet Power Points, donors will earn points with each platelet donation and can redeem them for gift cards or exclusive Hoxworth items in the Platelet Power Points store. This program is in addition to the monthly thank-you gift available to all blood and platelet donors.

Platelets are especially important for patients undergoing cancer treatment, trauma patients and those undergoing surgery, making regular platelet donors an essential part of the local blood supply. The new rewards program gives Hoxworth another way to recognize and thank these dedicated donors for their ongoing commitment to helping local patients.

“Platelet donors make an incredible commitment to our community, and we wanted to create a program that recognizes them for coming back again and again to help save lives,” said Oh. “Platelet Power Points is our way of saying thank you and giving our dedicated platelet donors the opportunity to choose rewards that are meaningful to them.”
