Lifeguard training available at UC
Free class available for those who want to work for Campus Recreation
Registration is now open for a free lifeguarding class at Campus Recreation. This class is open to any UC Student or any student in the Cincinnati area over the summer recess.
The American Red Cross lifeguard training class is being offered in April. The class will certify successful participants in First Aid, Lifeguarding, CPR and AED for two years.
Attendance in all classes is mandatory. Participants must be at least 16 years old by the last day of class. The class is free for individuals who commit to work an average of 15 hours at Campus Recreation for the 2023 summer season, May 1-Aug. 20.
To register, email Autumn Cleverley to register for a pre-skills assessment 3-5 p.m., Tuesday, April 4, or 9-11 a.m., Friday, April 7. Appointment times will be scheduled during those periods.

Pre-skills test
Pre-skills test includes the ability to:
- Swim 300 yards, non-stop, using a combination of freestyle and breaststroke.
- Tread water for two minutes without using hands.
- Swim 20 yards to retrieve a 10-pound brick from water in a 13-foot, 6-inch section of the pool. While swimming on back and holding the brick with both hands, return to start and climb out of the pool in one minute and 40 seconds.
