CosmeticsDesign Europe: Pharmacy college launches new graduate certificate program
UC cosmetic scientist K.P. Ananth speaks to the need for education in hygienic manufacturing

The article announces a new UC graduate certification program, in partnership with the Personal Care Products Council.
The certificate program was created to educate cosmetic manufacturing professionals in preventing contamination of cosmetic products produced with natural preservatives; and is a response to the industry’s need for better education to reduce contamination of cosmetic products that use natural preservatives.
The article states: As natural ingredients become more prevalent in personal beauty care product formulations, some natural preservatives are not strong enough to withstand current large-scale manufacturing processes. As a result, contamination can occur, which leads to product spoilage, waste, and financial losses to the manufacturer.
The mission of UC’s Division of Pharmaceutical Sciences is to advance the state of knowledge in the pharmaceutical sciences while providing the highest level of instruction in the basic pharmaceutical sciences in synchrony with the professional practice component of the curriculum. The division and its faculty are committed to sustaining a high profile in the areas of sponsored research and scholarly activity and actively supports graduate education that leads to advanced degrees in the pharmaceutical sciences in order to provide highly trained individuals for the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and personal care industries, government agencies, and academia.
