CCM alum Joélle Harvey featured in upcoming CSO performances
Harvey is the soprano soloist on Brahms' German Requiem, which runs Feb. 9-11
UC College-Conservatory of Music alumna Joélle Harvey (BM Voice ‘07, MM Voice ‘09) will join the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the May Festival Chorus for three performances of Johannes Brahms' large-scale Ein Deutsches Requiem (A German Requiem) at Cincinnati Music Hall later this month.
Presented as part of Louis Langrée's final season as music director of the CSO, this large-scale work was written for orchestra and chorus with soprano and baritone soloists, and the CSO's Feb. 9-11 performances will feature Harvey as the soprano soloist, along with baritone soloist Will Liverman in his debut with the CSO.
Harvey is no stranger to CSO audiences; she most recently joined Langrée and the CSO for an epic 2022-23 season-opening performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in September 2022. That same fall, she was also the soprano soloist in the New York Philharmonic's performance of Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy," which was broadcast as part of PBS’s Great Performances series.

A native of Bolivar, New York, Harvey received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in vocal performance from CCM. She began her career training at Glimmerglass Opera (now The Glimmerglass Festival) and the Merola Opera Program.
She began the 2023–24 performance season with an appearance at London’s Wigmore Hall, singing the role of Tirsi in Handel’s Clori, Tirsi e Fileno, with Harry Bicket leading The English Concert. She will sing Handel’s Messiah with the Chicago Symphony, North Carolina Symphony and Handel & Haydn (H+H) Society; Fauré’s Requiem with the National Symphony Orchestra; and a program of Haydn and Mozart with H+H. Season debuts include the Houston Symphony, for Orff’s Carmina Burana, and the New World Symphony, for Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
Notably, Harvey joins two long-tenured music directors for their farewell seasons this year: both the CSO’s Louis Langrée and also the Kansas City Symphony’s Michael Stern, who conducts performances of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 in June.

CCM welcomes Ben Nicholson as Assistant Professor of Immersive Media and Live Events

UC College-Conservatory of Music Dean Pete Jutras has announced the appointment of Benjamin Nicholson as CCM's new Assistant Professor of Immersive Media and Visuals for Live Events. A CCM alumnus (MFA Lighting Design & Technology, 2025), Nicholson's faculty appointment officially begins on Aug. 15, 2026, and he will work with college leadership to develop classes, content and programming in Live and Immersive Media at CCM. Nicholson's position is a joint appointment shared by CCM's Divisions of Media Production and Theatre Arts, Production and Arts Administration, and he will teach classes for both areas of the college.
