CCM hosts public lecture on rock music and politics in South America

Each semester, CCM welcomes distinguished experts for musical discussions and lectures that are open to the general public and free to attend.
CCM's public lecture series continues at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9, with a talk on rock and politics presented by guest speaker Minerva Campion, who serves as Professor of Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia.
This lecture is presented in collaboration with UC’s School of Public and International Affairs. The event is free and open to the general public. It will be presented in Watson Recital Hall, which is located on the 1000 level of the Corbett Center for the Performing Arts in the CCM Village.

Titled "Rock and Politics: Social Movements and Censorship in Latin America," Campion's lecture addresses the development of rock music and institutional, social and ecclesiastical censorship in South America, covering the decades from the 1950s to the 1990s. Censorship is confronted through social resistance processes generated within the rock scene that seek to confront or bypass censorship mechanisms in both authoritarian and democratic states.
About the Guest Speaker
Minerva Campion is a professor of Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Colombia. She focuses on research topics that link social movements and music scenes, leading research-creation projects such as "Punk and decoloniality" and "The impact of covid-10 on underground scenes."
Campion's guest lecture is coordinated by co-organizers CCM Professor of Music Theory Catherine Losada and UC Assistant Professor - Educator of Public and International Affairs Camila Paez-Bernal.
