UC students recognized for achievement in real-world learning
Each spring, the University of Cincinnati’s College of Cooperative Education and Professional Studies honors students for outstanding achievement in experiential learning.
This year, three College of Arts and Sciences students were recognized for taking advantage of cooperative education to gain work experience related to their course of study. Their stories help to illustrate why the University of Cincinnati is a top five university for co-ops and internships, according to U.S. News and World Report's Best Colleges rankings.
Max Roberts, Political Science

Through an internship at Great American Insurance Group, senior Max Roberts got hands-on experience as an insurance underwriter.
In this role, he helped to improve the submission process and rating system, and he trained and mentored fellow interns and junior team members.
Max’s experience confirmed his aspirations to a career in insurance underwriting, and he has been invited to join Great American’s Underwriter Development Program starting in June.
Lucy Guenther, Communication

As an event intern with UpSpring, a nonprofit that provides educational support for children experiencing homelessness in the Cincinnati region, junior Lucy Guenther helped plan and execute a major fundraising event for 250 guests.
The experience honed her communication skills as she worked with event sponsors, board members, event attendees and her team.
Lucy’s supervisor praised Lucy as “the most dependable, professional, caring intern I have worked with in my career.”
Mary Boehm, Environmental Studies
As an environmental studies major, junior Mary Boehm took advantage of an experiential learning opportunity with Upper Arlington Parks and Recreation. The experience influenced her career plans by confirming that she enjoys working outdoors and trying new things. She also learned to work with people from varied backgrounds.
