UC adaptive athletics recruit aims to be role model on and off the track

Columbus Dispatch highlights Grove City's Eamon Castaldi

The Columbus Dispatch highlighted Grove City High School adaptive track athlete Eamon Castaldi, who will join the University of Cincinnati's adaptive track and field team this fall.

Castaldi qualified early in the season for the high school state track meet, which will take place June 6 and 7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. When he starts his career as a Bearcat student athlete this fall, he plans to study sports management and hopes to be a role model to all athletes regardless of their ability.

Castaldi said he is looking forward to competing and training with other adaptive student athletes at UC and hopes other colleges around Ohio start similar programs. He said adaptive athletics have given him a sense of community and helped him stay focused on academics.

“It gives me a place I can belong," he told the Columbus Dispatch. "For me, for people in a wheelchair, that's hard to find outside of their own people that you can belong with."
