Jet engine-powered growth in southwest Ohio’s small towns
Cincinnati Business Courier examines how GE Aerospace’s $113 million investment fuels the region
The Cincinnati Business Courier recently reported that manufacturing giant GE Aerospace plans to invest over $100 million into its southwest Ohio facilities this year. According to the Courier, the investment is likely to create new jobs and drive economic growth between Cincinnati and Dayton.
Michael Jones, associate professor of economics at the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business, offered insight into how GE Aerospace’s spending can boost the local economy.
“Manufacturing is bringing in a lot of new money into the region, so that obviously trickles into the suppliers,” Jones told the Cincinnati Business Courier.
Jones noted that the impact is already being felt outside of manufacturing.
“We’re starting to see population growth,” Jones said. “As you see the growth in jobs … that affects retail stores (and) housing.”
