New effort to redefine research across Ohio
NSF awards University of Cincinnati and Kent State University $3 million to innovate in research
Media outlets highlighted a new joint effort co-led by the University of Cincinnati to streamline research across higher education.
The Cincinnati Business Courier explained that the $3 million National Science Foundation grant will go toward creating regional research consortiums that will advance Ohio's research capabilities.
The Supporting and HArmonizing Research Endeavors (SHARE) initiative is being led by Ohio co-principal investigators Jane Strasser at UC, Kent State University’s Douglas Delahanty and James Reecy at Iowa State University. SHARE aims to help simplify procedures and compliance for universities and colleges across Ohio. The program co-principal investigators plan to expand beyond the state over the course of the four-year grant.
Spectrum News 1 wrote that the project is a "bold course to redefine research and innovation."
“The SHARE program will lower facilities and administrative costs — or the ‘indirect’ costs — of research for participating institutions,” Strasser said. “It will provide support and infrastructure across the state, and potentially across the country.”
