CCM Jazz Orchestra celebrates legacy of Terry Gibbs big band in Sept. 21 concert
Featuring faculty artist Rusty Burge, vibraphone, tickets for the performance are on sale now
UC College-Conservatory of Music pays tribute to legendary American jazz vibraphonist and band leader Terry Gibbs with CCM Jazz Orchestra's "Flying Home" concert at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 21.
Led by CCM Director and Professor of Jazz Studies Scott Belck, the performance features CCM faculty artist Rusty Burge on vibraphone. A member of Percussion Group Cincinnati, Burge teaches percussion, jazz vibraphone and directs the CCM Percussion Ensemble/Steel Drum Band. The performance is presented as part of CCM's Jazz Series.
The Terry Gibbs Dream Band was the hottest band in LA in late ‘50s and early ‘60s with Gibbs leading the way with blazing solos on the vibraphone (vibes). Gibbs, who celebrated his 100th birthday in 2024, has made an indelible mark in the world of jazz. He has 65 albums to his credit; winner of major jazz polls including Best Vibraphonist, Best Quartet, Best Big Band and Best Band Leader; and creator of 300+ compositions (recorded by Gibbs, Nat Cole, Les Brown, Cannonball Adderly, Count Basie, George Shearing and many more).

Professor Burge teaches percussion, jazz vibraphone and directs the CCM Percussion Ensemble/Steel Band. He is an active jazz vibraphonist who has recorded for Summit, J Curve Records, CBS Masterworks and Telarc. He has recent performed with Peter Erskine, Ted Nash, Rich Perry, Dave Liebman, Rufus Reid, Steve Allee, Roland Vazquez and Michael Spiro, His latest recording The Rusty Burge Organ Trio was released in October of 2024. Professor Burge also released a new book New Adventures: Ten Pieces for Vibraphone in the fall of 2021.

Directions and Parking
CCM is located on the campus of the University of Cincinnati. For detailed driving directions, visit ccm.uc.edu/directions.
Parking is available in UC's CCM Garage (located at the base of Corry Boulevard off Jefferson Avenue) and additional garages throughout the UC campus. Effective July 1, 2023, all University of Cincinnati Parking Services locations are cashless. Pay for parking securely with your credit/debit card. All major credit cards accepted.
CCM OnStage patrons can add pre-paid parking to their checkout carts when purchasing tickets. Pre-paid parking is date/performance specific. CCM Garage parking rates for a performance or special event is usually available for $10-15. Learn more about parking at UC's CCM Garage.
