The top entries in a photo contest that generated more than 1,600 submissions from area high school students are on display in a new exhibition at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash College.
The Media Communications & Technology Department at UC Blue Ash coordinated the photo contest with 46 high schools in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. The response was impressive. There were a total of 1,648 submissions by 429 high school students.
“The volume and quality of submissions received were remarkable, and we’re thrilled by the energy this exhibition has sparked among the students and the sheer display of technical and aesthetic skill demonstrated,” said Roo Hedrick, program coordinator for the Media Communications & Technology Department at UC Blue Ash and production manager for the new exhibition.
Hedrick is also an award-winning photographer and graduate of the Media Communications & Technology associate degree program. She worked with H. Michael Sanders, UC Blue Ash professor emeritus and department archivist and curator, in judging the contest and curating the exhibition.

Sixty-five exceptional photos were selected for the High School Regional Photography Exhibition that runs through Friday, Dec. 12 at the UC Blue Ash Art Gallery. The photos selected by the judges as the best in each of seven categories will receive an award at the opening reception for the exhibition on Nov. 20. The reception is from 6-8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
The UC Blue Ash Art Gallery is located in the Annex Building on the UC Blue Ash campus at 4131 Cooper Road in the City of Blue Ash. Gallery hours for the exhibition are 9 am to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 1-4 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery will be closed Nov. 27-30 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
This the first time the college has provided a regional high school photography exhibition, but based on the response, it won’t be the last.
The Media Communications & Technology Department UC Blue Ash offers a range of academic programs that include animation, audio recording, media design, photography, video production, and web development.
