Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to 19th century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which, he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett's luck sharply shifts when Todd's thirst for blood inspires the integration of a new ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up... And the carnage has only just begun!

The production is double cast with Musical Theatre and Opera/Voice students taking turns in the lead roles in alternate performances. The ensemble is a mix of students from both programs. "This production is a perfect choice for merging the disciplines," writes Rick Pender for Movers and Makers

Musical Theatre students Anargha Pal (Sweeney Todd), Peyton Kern (Mrs. Lovett) and Oprea/Voice students Jack Hicks (Anthony Hope) and Zoè Meier-Juhlin (Johanna) are in the performances at 8 p.m. April 16, 2 p.m. April 18, and 2 p.m. April 19. Sweeney Todd features production elements designed and created by CCM's Theatre Design and Production program, including a barber chair that drops Sweeney's victims and, of course, plenty of fake blood. Content warning: This production contains adult language, violence and elements of gore.
