CCM faculty bring American jazz to Greece with upcoming performances

Jazz Studies faculty will perform at two of Greece's premier jazz destinations in October

The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is taking its celebrated jazz tradition to the international stage this month as a group of faculty members from CCM's Department of Jazz Studies prepares for a historic performance tour in Greece.

With the support of CCM Dean Pete Jutras and Jazz Studies Director Scott Belck, the tour marks the first time CCM jazz faculty will travel internationally as an ensemble — a milestone that reflects the college's commitment to artistic excellence, collaboration and global engagement.

The traveling seven-piece ensemble is comprised of the following faculty members:

Leading this international initiative is Associate Professor of Jazz Studies Craig Bailey, whose relationship with Greece spans more than four decades. Since 1986, Bailey has regularly traveled to the country to perform in major orchestras, concerts and jazz clubs, while also presenting master classes and lectures at music schools, universities and educational programs throughout Greece.

"This is a very special opportunity for us," said Bailey. "We are bringing classic American jazz to both venues and sharing the music, artistry and tradition that have made jazz such an important part of American culture."
