UC Community, Alumni Invited to Attend Mobile 'App'ening Celebration

The University of Cincinnati will launch a “mobile app incubator” and two new UC mobile apps on

. The event will kick off at

5 p.m.

in the TUC Cinema and will feature remarks by UC President Santa Ono, and Chris Wanstrath, co-founder of the popular open-source code sharing and publishing service

. Attendees will get an exclusive preview of UC’s newest mobile applications as well as tours of the new mobile app incubator.

The mobile app incubator provides a physical space to stimulate student and alumni collaboration leading to mobile app advancements. The facility will share space with ResNet on UC’s MainStreet and will boast high-tech collaboration space and support from

UCIT

developers. Students, alumni, faculty and staff will now be able to come together to develop real-world mobile applications in a creative and educational environment.

“As the only physical mobile app development space in any university in the region, the incubator is a testament to the technological, education and creative innovation being generated at UC,” said Nelson Vincent, vice president of UC Information Technologies. “The incubator serves as an academic resource where students will develop skills in a collaborative environment. It is a place for teaching and learning – an incubator for talent.”

To coincide with the opening of the incubator, UC will unveil mobile applications designed with the needs of UC students and alumni in mind. These applications will provide the framework for students and alumni who wish to use the incubator to learn more about development.

The event is made possible through partnership with the

UC Foundation

, Division of Governmental Relations & University Communications, Student Government and other university entities. UCIT partnered with Student Government to hold a naming contest among UC students. The winning name will be announced to guests at the grand “app”ening event. In addition to being the first to preview the new incubator and apps, guests will also have the opportunity to participate in a question and answer session with keynote speaker, Chris Wanstrath, and will be eligible to win an Apple iPad Mini courtesy of the University of Cincinnati Bookstores.
