Five Outstanding Women Announced for C-Ring Award

The

University of Cincinnati Women’s Center

has announced this year’s finalists for the

C-Ring

, one of the oldest and most prestigious awards at the university. The award, first given in 1922, recognizes an outstanding graduating senior woman.  Eligible women must have a 3.4 grade-point average, be community or university leaders and demonstrate advocacy for women or girls. The C-Ring recipient will be announced April 5 at the annual spring dinner where all finalists are recognized.  UC Senior Vice President & Provost Beverly Davenport will give the welcome for the occasion.

Finalists selected by the C-Ring committee for 2014 include:

  • Amara Agomuo, McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Pre-Law and Political Science, nominated by Ivan Dinev Ivanov, visiting assistant professor, Political Science department.
  • Alexandria Johnson, McMicken College of Arts & Sciences, majoring in Spanish, nominated by Bleuzette Marshall, UC Chief Diversity Officer.

“The Women’s Center asks the campus community to join us in congratulating each of the finalists on their accomplishments,” said Barb Rinto, director of the Women’s Center. “We look forward to celebrating their continued success in the field of advocacy for women and girls.”

First given in 1922 by the Athletics Department to the best "all around gal," the C-Ring has evolved over the last 90-plus years to become an all-university award based on several rigorous criteria. Nominations may come from any faculty, staff or alumni. The selection committee reviews the nominations and an essay by each nominee and then conducts a personal interview before making its final selection.
