Strategic Hiring Initiative Brings New Faculty to Campus

Provost Beverly Davenport’s Strategic Hiring initiatives feature a

as well as efforts to increase the number of minority and women faculty in STEM fields. Already, they are supporting needed faculty hires within University of Cincinnati’s colleges and libraries.

In fiscal year 2015 alone, the provost office allocated $1.17 million of one-time and permanent

monies to support Strategic Hiring Initiatives. (Third Century investments target UC’s core academic mission.)

On top of President Santa Ono’s Third Century investments, the provost’s office is investing $800,000 over the next three years to support and expand efforts to recruit and retain faculty.

“Investing in faculty and supporting their growth and development at UC is critical to our current and continued success,” said Provost Beverly Davenport. “We know that to keep our competitive edge, we need to create exciting opportunities for the top talent already on campus as we recruit the best and the brightest, especially minority and women candidates.”

So far, Dual Career and Strategic Hiring Initiatives have brought 22 new faculty to campus. In the past year, UC tripled its underrepresented minority and women STEM faculty, according to Robin Martin, associate provost for special initiatives.

“The success of the program is only the beginning in UC’s journey to attract and retain top talent,” Martin said. “By increasing the diversity of our faculty, we enhance both the academy and the student experience.”

UC colleges that have made recent hires thanks to the above initiatives are

  • UC Blue Ash
  • UC Clermont
  • Carl H. Lindner College of Business
  • College-Conservatory of Music
  • College of Education, Criminal Justice & Human Services
  • College of Engineering and Applied Science
  • UC Libraries
  • College of Medicine
  • McMicken College of Arts & Sciences
  • College of Nursing.

New faces on campuses

Dual Career and Strategic Hiring Initiative success stories include

  • Clermont College’s Prince Ellis, assistant professor of economics and finance, and Abel Gyan, assistant professor of allied health, just two of four new faculty members joining UC Clermont College.

  •  Kristin Rozier, assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Rozier is the second woman faculty member to ever join UC’s aerospace program.

Rozier is one of 10 new faculty hired within CEAS this fall, as the college pursues a

plan to hire 50 new faculty within five years.
