Hoxworth Issues Emergency Appeal for All Blood Types
Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati is releasing an emergency appeal for all blood types. All eligible individuals are being asked to donate blood immediately.
All individuals, regardless of blood type, are urged to donate reports Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. National blood supplies are limited and we cannot rely on acquiring blood from other communities at this time. We will soon reach a critical level locally without an immediate response.
Presently, the blood center has only 70 percent of the optimal inventory needed to serve 30 tri-state hospitals. Blood Type A positive is especially needed.
Multiple factors such as the flu, weather and general apathy have resulted in low donor turnout for the past month, said Dr. Ronald Sacher, director of Hoxworth Blood Center. We are in a state of emergency for all blood types and need the community to support our efforts in securing a healthy blood supply.
Hoxworth operates eight Neighborhood Donor Centers in Anderson, Blue Ash, Downtown, Ft. Mitchell, Mason, Tri-County, Western Hills and the Hoxworth Center adjacent to University Hospital. Walk-ins are welcome, however appointments are encouraged. Call (513) 451-0910 or visit hoxworth.org.
