Faces Episode 3 Showcases Entrepreneurial Professor Jason Heikenfeld
President Santa Onos Faces of the #HottestCollegeinAmerica video series continues today with its third episode. It profiles UC alumnus Jason Heikenfeld, a professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
Heikenfeld, winner of the universitys emerging and established entrepreneurial achievement awards, is known for his commercialization efforts and his involvement in interdisciplinary courses that give students hands-on experiences with guidance of faculty. Heikenfelds discoveries have been licensed through UC to more companies than any other current faculty member, and he stands among the top 10 UC faculty of all time for patents issued.
One example of Heikenfelds entrepreneurship is Eccrine Systems, a privately-held company he co-founded. UC owns part of the company as a university spin-off that started in 2013. It is Heikenfelds third start-up.
The president's "Faces" video series is tied to the university's Creating Our Third Century plan and seeks to salute the faculty, staff, students and alumni who make the university so great.
