Emergency Appeal for Type O Donors

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is releasing an emergency appeal for

Type O

blood. All eligible individuals are being asked to donate blood immediately, especially type O negative donors as there is a critical need for this particular blood type.

“The supply of Type O blood in the Tri-State has plummeted. O Negative supplies are 41 percent below levels considered necessary to meet daily and emergency needs,” said Alecia Lipton, Hoxworth spokesperson. “The situation is considered critical.”

O Negative is the universal donor type and can be given to any patient in need

, but only 6 percent of the population has O Negative blood.

Hoxworth is always in need of lifesaving blood. Schedule an appointment by calling (513) 451-0910 or visit

Hoxworth Blood Center, University of Cincinnati, is uniting blood donors around one shared mission — saving lives close to home — through two unique blood drives this May. From the FC Cincinnati Blood Drive at TQL Stadium to an event honoring local blood recipient and cancer survivor John Mattingly, these blood drives offer meaningful ways to give back. Whether inspired by hometown pride or a powerful personal story, blood donors are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and help ensure life-saving blood is available for patients across the Tristate. Patients at local hospitals depend on blood donations every day, and community support is critical to maintaining a strong supply.
