. Tate has worked on the Mayor's Executive Protection Unit while working in Atlanta and has trained hundreds of officers and civilians in self-defense techniques.

Tate will dispel many of the myths created by the media and introduce you to the proper mindset for self-defense. Topics include assaults in public; home invasions; armed assailants; rape defense; the use weapons and legal considerations; common weapons to use at home; and effective striking methods.

This is a great session and very informative for college faculty/staff and students headed back to campus.

Class is held on Saturdays, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Oct. 8-22 at the Victory Parkway Campus.

Ancient Maya blessed their ballcourts

Using environmental DNA analysis, researchers identified a collection of plants used in ceremonial rituals in the ancient Maya city of Yaxnohcah. The plants, known for their religious associations and medicinal properties, were discovered beneath a plaza floor upon which a ballcourt was built, suggesting the building might have been blessed or consecrated during construction.
