The Power of Platelets at UC

Hoxworth Blood Center is excited to be hosting weekly platelet drives on the campus of the University of Cincinnati.

Students, faculty, and staff have rolled up their sleeves to be lifesaving platelet donors. So far, 21 successful donors have donated 36 lifesaving platelet products over the course of five platelet drives.

“These platelet drives are critical in meeting the needs of patients in our Tri-State hospitals,” reports Alecia Lipton, public information officer.  “This new partnership with UC has been very valuable, and we are eager to continue hosting weekly platelet drives every Tuesday beginning in January.”

Platelets are essential for normal blood clotting and must be transfused within five days of donation. That’s why Hoxworth needs a steady stream of dedicated platelet donors in order to consistently provide hospitals with a fresh supply and save lives in the Tri-State area.

The next UC Platelet Drive will be Monday, Nov. 21, in TUC Atrium on the 3rd Level.  Starting in January, the weekly drives be held from 10 AM to 4 PM every Tuesday (exceptions 1/31, 3/14, 4/4 and 4/11). All platelet donors receive a swag bag and a $10 gift card as a thank you.
