EIT accessibility program contest winner to be announced March 22
The Electronic and Information Technology Program (EIT) Accessibility Program (soon to have a new name) would like to thank UC students, faculty and staff for participating in our Naming Contest.
In January, our program invited UC students, faculty and staff to submit a short, descriptive name to better reflect the objectives of our program. Out of the over 140 names suggested, five made it to the campus-wide vote in February. The EIT Accessibility Programs leadership are currently deciding on the winner from the top two names chosen by the UC community.
The EIT Accessibility Program was created in alignment with an agreement that UC entered into with U.S. Department of Educations Office of Civil Rights around our web and online presence. It is designed to move UC beyond eAccessibility compliance toward a universally designed web and eLearning experience accessible for all individuals. This was a great opportunity to not only help create a larger identity for the teams, but also get the word out about the great things we are doing in the program, said Chris Edwards, assistant vice president in IT@UC eLearning and chair of the EIT Accessibility Program Steering Committee.
While the final choice is being made, please save the date for a celebration in Tangeman University Center Atrium from 1-2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22. The winning name will be revealed along with a presentation of an iPad Mini to the Grand Prize winner, thanks to the UC Office of the Provost. Our keynote speaker will be Luis Pérez, a disability studies, Universal Design for Learning, and assistive technology expert. Luis will give a presentation on accessibility in the electronic environment and why it benefits all learners, not just students with disabilities. Any UC student, faculty or staff are welcome to join us.
