CCM Prep Presents 'Into the Woods Jr.' May 3-5
The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music Preparatory and Community Engagement department a miniature production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapines cult-classic musical,
. Co-directed by CCM Prep instructors
and
, the 60-minute junior version of the musical is presented on Thursday, May 3, through Saturday, May 5, in CCM's Cohen Family Studio Theater.
The production features the students of
CCMs Junior Musical Theatre Intensive
program, who range from 9 to 14 years old.
Into the Woods Jr.
features beloved fairytale characters Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack (and his beanstalk) and the Witch in a whimsical retelling of classic Brothers Grimm fables.
Audience members familiar with the original
Into the Woods
will recognize most of the junior version from act one of the original.
Into the Woods
premiered on Broadway in 1987, where it won Tony Awards for Best Score and Best Book. It has been revived many times at major playhouses, and it was adapted for film in 2014, which received three Academy Award nominations and three Golden Globe nominations.
